Thank you for purchasing the VEI DMX 60 controller.  The controller can be easily operated and programmed with only a few simple buttons. The controller can easily handle any DMX fixture up to 10 units with up to 6 dmx channels per unit. You can store up to 60 scenes, 18 chases of memory inside the controller. The controller has many features such as has audio capability with a built in mic, black out, chase linking, chase and fade speed controls, 6 dmx faders.

So please read on on how to explore the many options of the VEI DMX 60 controller.

1)  Unpacking the unit

 Unpack the unit carefully and inspect for any damages or missing components.

 2) Data cable (DMX cable) Requirements

 

This controller requires a standard 3-pin XLR connector for data output. Be sure cable is a 2 conductor shielded type construction. Also be sure that the data cables shield is not connected to the ground lug or allow the shield connector to come in contact with the XLR’s outer metal casing. Grounding the shield will cause a short circuit and erratic behavior.

3) Controller button functions

1         FUNCTION BUTTON:   Chooses between operation modes; SCENCES, CHASE, PROG.

2         HEAD UP­/ DOWN¯  BUTTON: Chooses the unit  (1 thru 10) to be programmed

3         BANK UP­/ DOWN ¯  BUTTON: Chooses the  memory storing location ( 10 banks) for either scenes or chases.

4         SAVE BUTTON:  Saves the stored information into memory

5         S1-S6 BUTTON:  These are the Scene location storage buttons (1-60)

6         C1-C6 BUTTON: These are the Chase location  storage buttons (1-18)

7         SPEED MODE BUTTON: This controls the chase speed and audio activation feature.

8         BLACK OUT BUTTON: This control causes a blackout of all fixtures

9         LINK BUTTON: Lnks all chases in a continuous loop feature

10       CH1-CH6 FADERS: These are the DMX channels faders for controlling the features of the units such as (color wheel,
  
   gobo wheel, dimming, mirror) 

11       SPEED FADER: Controls the chase speeds and audio feature

12       SLOPE FADER  Controls the time it takes to fade from one scene to another scene when in chase mode.

13       SCENE/CHASE/PROG. LED: The LED indicates what operation mode you a currently in

14       AUDIO LED: The LED indicates when you are in audio mode 

 

1)      Setting  up Fixture  DMX settings

This controller can controller up to 10 dmx heads independently with each head having a maximum of 6 DMX channels.

5) Programming Scenes

      A Scene is a static snap shot or picture of the look you want to save from programming the head units. 

A. Press  FUNCTION Button until the SCENE LED is lit.

B. Press BANK UP­/DOWN¯ Button to select what bank storage  location you want to work with. The display will show L1,
 L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7, L8, L9, LA, as you press the
BANK UP­/DOWN¯ button  each time showing what bank you are in.
 Remember each bank can store up to 6 Scenes per Bank for a total of 60 Scenes max.

C. Press  HEAD UP­/DOWN¯ Button to select what head unit you want to program. The display will show 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 as you press the HEAD­/DOWN¯ button each time showing what head you  are to control. The display will also show  “AL” to control all 10 heads at one time, “AA” to control all even number heads (2,4,6,8,10) and “SS” to control all odd numbered heads (1,3,5,7,9).

D.  Move the DMX faders CH1-CH6 to control the selected (HEAD in step C) and its features such as: gobo wheel /color wheel/mirror/dimming to your desired positions. To continue with another HEAD simply select the new HEAD by using the HEAD UP­/ DOWN¯ button and control its features with the DMX faders. Continue this practice until you programmed all you selected head units.

E.  Once you selected all your looks for each fixture you must save it into a selected SCENE. To SAVE  a scene simply press the SAVE button, the SAVE LED will be lit.

F.  Press the selected SCENE button S1-S6 and hold until the SAVE LED goes out, to store your info into the selected scene location.

G.  Repeat the above steps to store up to a maximum of 60 scenes.

H.  To edit a scene you simply create a new scene ands save it in the old scene location.

 

6)  Programming Chases

 A Chase is a loop of selected scenes/steps played in a continuous moving pattern.  

A.   Press FUNCTION Button until the CHASE LED is lit.

B.   Press BANK UP­/DOWN¯ Button to select the chase bank C1-C3 you want to work in. Select  the Chase bank.

C.   Press SAVE Button and the SAVE LED will be lit and the C1-C6 LEDS will flash, indicating what chase location you want to work in.

D.  Select C1-C6 and press the respective button to select the chase location you want.

E.  Select the SCENE location you want to begin the first step in the chase by pressing S1-S6 button in the respected bank to save the first scene/step in the chase.

F.  Select another scene location S1-S6 button in the respected bank to save the second scene/step in the chase.

G.  Repeat the above procedure to up to a maximum of 12 scenes/steps per chase  

H.  Press SAVE Button  until SAVE LED goes out, to save your programmed chase pattern.

 

7)  Linking Chases

You can link chases up to 12 chases in a continuous loop pattern

A.   Press LINK Button

B.   Press SAVE Button the C1-C6 LEDS will flash

C.   Press BANK UP­/DOWN¯ button to select the chase bank C1-C3 you want to be in.

D.   Press the selected chase pattern from the C1-C6 buttons you want to start the first chase pattern in the link.

E.   Press another selected chase pattern from the C1-C6 buttons as your second chase pattern in the link.

F.   Repeat these procedures up to 12 chase patterns in a link

Press the SAVE Button to save the info.

6)   Playing back recorded Scenes

 

A.   Press FUNCTION Button until  FUNCTION LED is lit

B.   Press the BANK UP­/DOWN¯ to select the bank of scenes (L1-LA)  you want to playback.

C.   Press the selected SCENE Button S1-S6 to play back that scene

 

7)   Playing back recorded Chases

A.    Press FUNCTION Button until  FUNCTION LED is lit.

B.    Press  the BANK UP­/DOWN¯ Button  to select the chase bank (C1-C3) you want to play back.

C.    Press the selected Chase button C1-C6 to play back the chase.

 

8)    Adjusting the Speed mode fader

       The  SPEED fader controls the chase speed  from one scene/step to another scene/step while the chase is running.

A.    Press the SPEED MODE Button  and the SPEED MODE LED will be lit.

B.    Move the SPEED fader up or down to control how fast or slow the chase speed is.

 

9)    Adjusting the Slope fader

The SLOPE fader controls the fade time it takes to go from one scene/step to another scene/step while the chase is running.

A.   Move the SLOPE fader up or down to control fade times from scene to scene. This is useful when you want to have a slow smooth mirror movement of the fixtures across the stage.

 

10)  Audio Mode

      The audio mode will playback the chase pattern to music beats.

A.   You must put Dip switch # 2 on only, on the dip switch located on rear side of controller.

B.    To activate the audio mode slide the SPEED fader to all the way down position. The  AUDIO LED will be lit at this time
  indicating controller is in audio mode.

C.   The AUDIO LED will pulsate to the audio beats being picked up by the built in mic. located on rear side of controller.

D)   To release audio mode simply move SPEED fader up until the AUDIO LED is no longer lit.

 

11) Black out

    To blackout all units

A.  Press the BLACKOUT Button to blackout all fixtures  DMX output.

Press the BLACKOUT Button again to resume normal fixture DMX output.
